The Studio was founded by Janek Dombrowa in 1985. An architect and educator, Janek is a principal at Build Like It Matters, and Director of DT Labs. He has been an Adjunct Assistant Professor at USC’s School of Architecture since 1998 and leads JTD Architects, specializing in economic and physical sustainability through the adaptive reuse of industrial, commercial, and residential sites. His work focuses on repurposing LA high-rises, urban parking structures, and large industrial sites.

He studied at USC, Princeton, and MIT and was a guest architect on Discovery Channel’s PlanetGreen Greensburg Series, which explored disaster recovery in Greensburg, Kansas, after an EF5 tornado. His students contributed to local presentations and rebuilding efforts, and Build Like It Matters proposed sustainable wind-resistance systems for the city.

DT Labs develops patented technology for high-sustainability housing and wind-resistant structures, including retrofit systems and energy-efficient construction for coastal and central U.S. regions.
